The Directory Scam

Some companies, such as Generalyellowpages.com, contact churches and small businesses and attempt to get a receptionist or secretary to agree to order an online directory listing.  They use misleading language (e.g., implying they are requesting a renewal of an existing arrangement) and record the conversation.  They then send the organization multiple dunning letters and threaten collection action.

If you know of an organization subject to harassment by such a company, contact the appropriate state fraud prevention agency, the Federal Trade Commission, or an attorney.
